Pancake Breakfast October 13, 2012

The Warren Preservation Society is hosting a Pancake Breakfast in Stingy Alley (between Church and Baker Streets) on Saturday, October 13 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM.  Pancakes, sausage and fruit, coffee and juice will be served, weather permitting, in Stingy Alley by members of the Society.  In case of inclement weather, breakfast will be served in the Methodist Church on Church Street.  The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children under 10.

The enhancement of Stingy Alley has been a project of the Warren Preservation Society since 2009.  To date, old asphalt has been removed and replaced with crushed blue stone.   Landscaping has been improved and the bordering fence painted.  And in time for the Breakfast, new granite post markers have been installed at either end of the alley.

What is now known as Stingy Alley was set off from the southern boundary of the Methodist Church property when the church expanded its land holdings south to State Street in 1846 when the current church structure was erected. By legend, it acquired its name as a place for townspeople to congregate to hear the Sunday sermons who were not able to afford the cost of a pew seat inside the church itself. In 1850s the Church deeded the land to the town as a legal alleyway, and has remained a convenient walking link between Baker and State Streets veer since.

Advanced reservations are not needed.  Admission will be collected at the door on the morning of the event.
