Annual Meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Thursday June 20th for our Annual Meeting at the Maxwell House and the Dedication of The Middle Passage Historic Site Marker at the Town Wharf on Water Street.  Middle Passage Committee members and WPS Board Members  Pat Mues and Sarah Weed presented the newest addition to our marker series in a moving ceremony that featured a group reading of the names of the enslaved men and women who lived in Warren. The sign is permanently located across from the Captain Charles Collins House, one of the financiers of the Abigail, the first slave ship that was launched from Warren in 1789. The ceremony was attended by members and guests from the Newport Middle Passage Committee and Warren town officials.  This marker was paid for primarily with funds from a RI State Legislative Grant and we are extremely proud of its presence on the Town Wharf where it will serve to educate the public on the role Rhode Island and Warren played in the American transatlantic slave trade.

Holiday Party 2018

Thank you to everyone who made our 2018 Annual Holiday Party a blast! 

The event was well attended with both old and new members, the food was wonderful and the venue (thanks to members Pat Warwick and Jay Carlotto) was beautiful.
